This is used if you cannot have outside access for the drainage for the inside unit. For example, if it is located on an interior wall.For the problem you describe, it would be best to verify that the unit is draining properly, by checking the drain tube and also pouring some white vinegar into the drain pan in order to clean the pan and drain line.
